SB 1505 (2006) - Lowenthal

EIN co-sponsored Senate Bill 1505 was passed by the legislature and signed into law by the Governor on September 30th, 2006. The bill – carried by Senator Alan Lowenthal and co-sponsored with the Union of Concerned Scientists – sets emissions criteria and renewable content standards for hydrogen produced in California for transportation applications. The bill is the first of its kind in the world and is critical to ensuring that hydrogen fuel provides true petroleum-reduction and emissions benefits. The bill was the product of a unique collaboration of public and private sector interests and developed in a manner that allows the hydrogen industry to grow, but in a sustainable manner.  Before July 1, 2008, the Air Resources Board will hold public workshops to discuss the production of hydrogen for transportation fuel and the adoption of hydrogen fuel regulations.
